Time To Try New Things

Hi Friends,
April Is The Perfect Time To Try New Things!
Picture
How are you feeling right now? I'm doing well, and it's at least in part because I am trying a few new things! Cheer for me, my friends...and thank you in advance. Because trying something new can be scary as sh**! But letting myself be overcome by the fear is not an option for me right now. My desire to move forward by supporting others is important to me, and worth the effort of finding ways to move past the initial fear. And, I will allow myself to be happy with the outcome, whatever it is, because I tried.

For today, I'll start by sharing with you what I am up to. Then I will share a few thoughts that can help you deal with the inevitable fear of trying something new.

Watch Me on YouTube this Friday at 7pm
This Friday, April16 at 7pm, I will be appearing on a YouTube livestream to discuss optimal health as we age. It will be hosted by fitness instructor and life coach Diana Byfield. Her mission is to empower women by helping them discover and align with their own passion and purpose. Each month her show focuses on a different theme, and this month's theme is Health and Wellness. I've gotten to know Diana, and she's an incredible individual who has overcome adversity to get where she is today. I am appearing on her show with another coach, April Lynn, to discuss many areas of health and fitness, including how to feel great as we age. Here is a link to the flyer with details. I am sure it will be a lively and information packed conversation, and I am excited to talk with Diana and April. I hope you will join us on YouTube at @purposepowerhousellc.
I'm Moderating on Clubhouse
Have you ever heard of Clubhouse?
It's an app (for iPhone users only) where you can listen to and join in on conversations covering an extremely broad range of topics (almost anything you can think of that's part of pop culture). It is voice only, so it feels almost like an interactive podcast. There are various "rooms" that listeners enter, each with one or more moderators guiding a discussion about a specific topic. Examples of rooms: Feel like you lost your spark at midlife? How important is spirituality in your life? Let's talk about what makes us each unique.

Participants enter the room of their choice to hear a moderated discussion. There are many rooms, each with a different topic, going on simultaneously. You can just listen, or you can join in on the discussion by coming onto the "stage." It's fun and lively! I will be co-moderating a new room soon (topic and date TBD-I will keep you posted). In the meantime, in the spirit of trying something new, give this app a try. It feels like an adventurous book club or lecture, that you can join without leaving your favorite couch.

Getting the app is by invitation only, so if you are interested, please reach out to me here and I will try to secure an invitation for you. Again, it's currently only available for iPhone users.
For You: Getting Over Your Fear Of Trying New Things
And now, let's talk about trying new things. Doing the new things I described above will take me WAYYYY out of my comfort zone. Here's what I am thinking to embrace the experience and get past my fear:
  • Remember, the primitive part of your brain doesn't like uncertainty...at all. New experiences naturally create uncertainty. Everyone feels this fear to some degree. Regardless of how brave others may seem when trying something outside of their comfort zone, they too, experience this human fear. We are all in the same boat. You are not alone.
  • Labelling your feelings with a positve emotion helps your brain stay more relaxed and focused. The body sensations that come from experiencing fear are identical to those that come from being excited. The butterflies, nervous energy, and shakiness from both of these emotions really are the same. But when you tell yourself you are feeling excitement, you are creating more positive energy and a more positive mindset than when calling it fear. Bottom line: label it as something positive.
  • Remember your why. Why are you trying this new thing? Reminding yourself of the reason you want to do it will help you  stay more focused on the positive outcome, and less focused on the specific new task that's creating your fear. It will make your fear worth it.
  • Practice makes any task easier, and you will improve over time.
  • On the other hand, we often believe we need a lot of experience to be good at something. In reality, we are often perfectly fine doing new things, even the very first time. Don't decide beforehand you won't be good at something. Because really, who knows?
  • And finally, a part of every human being wants to experience new things in order to grow and flourish. I've never had a client that didn't feel proud and excited about trying something new, especially once it was completed. Tap into the positive energy of adventure and discovery by doing something you haven't done before. I bet you will not regret it!

I believe trying new things will ultimately help you create a more positive experience of aging. Stretching yourself out of your comfort zone comes with both fear and excitement. Don't forget about the latter! People rarely regret trying something new, but often regret not trying something at all.
Reminder
Please don't forget to join me this Friday with Diana on April 16 at 7pm, as we discuss more ideas about aging with good health, joy and optimism. Optimal wellness is created, it is not a given. If you treat every part of yourself (body, mind and soul) like valuable and precious gifts, they will more likely create for you all the good health and happiness you desire.

Let's stay connected...even more often!
To all my social media lovers, in addition to my presence on Facebook, I'm now also on Instagram!  Communicating on social media has been a great way to talk directly to the women I love, women like you. I enjoy hearing what you have to say, and seeing what resonates most with you as you navigate life during these 'tricky' times. My Instagram content is a bit more 'bite-sized' than these newsletters, but don't worry, they are still full of all the relevant intel!  I am still discussing issues related to feeling better as you age, and will cover everything from food, movement, and lifestyle issues, to self-expression, slowing down and embracing joy.

I'd love for you to follow me on Instagram @wellnesscoachlori for discussions about things that can help you feel like you are aging better, and more importantly, like you are continuing to grow. And staying connected right now is a truly important way to learn, to thrive and to feel supported during these very challenging times.
Please come join me in this new way!

As a coach, I believe you can create the life you want to have. You can't always control all the circumstances in your life (hello Pandemic), but you can choose how you respond to these circumstances. When your emotions get triggered (and if you're human, they often do), you have the ability to choose how you deal with them. The way you handle both the circumstances in your life and the emotions you feel will ultimately create your experience of life.
As always, if there is any way I can help you get through a personally challenging time, or to meet your goals (big or small), while we are living life a little differently, click here and schedule a free discovery call. Then we can discuss how I can provide the system, stretch and accountability you need to get over some of the hurdles you are experiencing with respect to your health and life goals.

Together, we can take one step at a time so you experience life in a way that truly reflects the person you want to be as you age.

Please take care of yourself, and know that I am here to help you during this time. I am offering free discovery phone calls to discuss helpful coping alternatives as they relate to your specific situation.
